Dracula

Please join us for the Premier full- length story of Dracula told through dance,  choreographed By David Ward and Missy Crain for Louisiana Delta Ballet. Based on the 1897 Gothic horror novel by Irish author Bram Stoker, this classic  story follows young businessman Jonathan Harker as he travels to Transylvania from his home in Victorian London- to the castle of the mysterious Count Dracula.  The feeling that something is amiss overcomes the young man, and the dark adventure begins!  When the Count catches sight of the image of Jonathan’s love Mina, he cannot help but feel certain that she is his own wife, come back through time and space to be reunited with him. Dracula becomes obsessive in his quest to find her, and will stop at nothing to accomplish his goal.  In an epic story of the enduring nature of true love, we watch as the team of vampire expert Dr. Van Helsing, Psychiatrist Dr Seward, the dashing Arthur, and our hero Jonathan Harker brave the ultimate danger in this triumphant tale of good versus evil. Along the way, we encounter the tragic characters of Ms. Renfield, Mina’s dearest friend Lucy Westenra, and the three beguiling undead brides of the Count. Accompanied by the beautiful dancers of Louisiana Delta Ballet in both lead and supporting roles, and talented guest artists from  around the nation, this is sure to be a memorable retelling of a true classic.  The production features new sets and costumes, and thrills aplenty to sink your teeth into this October!  Himself a London native, David Ward finds inspiration from Director Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 film Dracula as well as from the great story telling choreographers Matthew Bourne and David Nixon. “It feels important to me that the audience sees the authenticity of these rich characters and that there is more to this caped Villain than meets the eye.”
